I used to live opposite pizza expressg, in a flat above a funeral directors. I did not hear of it being haunted. i do not know what to make of ghost stories, but late one night i was watching TV and i heard a loud scraping noise when i got up to go to the kitchen i saw a small wall mounted picture was swaying from side to side. As i approached to stop it, it did so by its self stone dead. there is no way it was next door as the wall was dividing the living room to the kitchen. i felt real cold, no windows open, i just really for a moment felt something was with me. Strange

I used to know the lady who owned the hairdressing shop on the right hand side of the high street as you go down.....More than once her and her staff reported ' odd goings on ' and even claimed to have seen a hairbrush move all on its own ?? does anyone know of this story ?

I don't know if the Pizza Express place claims to be haunted but before when it use to be a Supermarket it certainly was! Strange mists would often be seen rolling down aisles and in the staff cloackroom and toilets people would feel very uneasy. The toilets would flush and toilet rolls would unroll when the cubicles were empty!

Jane's ghosts are wonderful, but it's Cheam, not Worcester Park. I know of a house in Worcester Park where there was so much poltergeist activity in the 1980s that holy water from Lourdes had to be sprinkled in each room. Surprisingly, it worked on the poltergeist. Unfortunately, the garage was forgotten and things hanging up in there would swing from their hooks. Mind you, the house had been inhabited by a funeral director and his agoraphobic wife and the previous owners had only stayed a couple of years ....

I think you'll find there are more ghosts than you think in Worcester Park. There was in fact a major Civil War skirmish in Nonsuch Park so it's likely you'll have the odd cavalier. I often hear stories when I walk the dog in Nonsuch Park about ordinary houses. I co-own The Old Rectory in Cheam Village - which you've been chatting about and thank you for that - and yes indeed we have a tickling ghost. I had two ladies here once, who both had their bottoms pinched by ghostly fingers in the cellar - and they both re-booked to come again on our ghost walks! We also have our wonderful former Regency rector who is a darling, and rather fond of wearing wigs. I last saw him two weeks ago wearing a new full wig and a wide hat! Well the blogs on ghosts are really funny and I'm sure if you had a ghost hunter and you met in the car park at waitrose at 8pm on a friday and wondered around the Avenue, StMarys and Shadbolt park with a sensative person /clairvoyant you would indeed come accross many friendly and lost souls, whether you would believe what you saw or heard is another matter. Still it would be fun.

That's more like it Andrew and love the story about the Ghost of the Gaumont Worcester Park. Poor devil, though, to take the loss of his job so badly. I have also been told off-Blog that the ghost of a highway man was once seen in Strouds Field before the houses were built which sort of ties in with the headless horseman in Church Road, but the highwayman was more likely Jerry Abershaw who was hung at Tibbet's Corner.

I live on Boscombe Road, and when i was a kid and the sewage works was still the sewage works, there was a story that a young girl took a horse out from the stables nearby, but went off the beaten track and wandered into the vast open land that contained the works. There were lots of incredibly deep open holes in there, and she allegedly fell into one and wasnt found until she and the horse were dead. Apparently people have seen a horse being ridden in there from time to time ever since. Will have to ask the Hamptons residents if they ever see them galloping around in there!

Many years ago, when I was a child, I heard that a headless horseman dating back to the days of Dick Turpin, who, it is said, visited The Plough pub, Old Malden, was seen in Church Road...........so mind how you go when taking your library books back in the dark !

Where Pizza Express is now , on the corner of Windsor Road there used to be a cinema which closed in 1960. I have heard from a reliable source that the projectionist was so devastated about the closure that he took his own life in the projection room. When it was turned into a supermarket the projection room was used as a store room but none of the staff liked going in there as it was always icy cold and a very eerie feeling in there, also in the mornings when the staff arrived they would find a lot of the shelf items altered and where there had been stacks of toilet rolls or stacked tins etc., they were often strewn about the floor even thought it had been left tidy the night before and no one had been in there until the following day. The girls on the checkout were convinced that it was the ghost of the dead projectionist, has anyone else heard this story? and I wonder if there are any ghostly goings on now that it has been turned into apartments.

Not a decent ghost in the whole of Worcester Park, just as I suspected. A 'presence' that hangs about and doesn't do much in the flat over the pet shop and a couple of Roman centurions minus their feet in faraway Cheam is all we can manage. I bet if they hadn't pulled down all those big Victorian houses in the Avenue it might be a different story.

Surely the semi-abandoned Abel and Cole shop is the most notorious example of a Worcester Park haunting. The way it is never actually seen to be occupied, and yet the furniture occasionally changes position, and the piles of papers and post are sometimes removed or repositioned. But no one ever sees anyone go in or out. And if you stand too long outside it wondering, you come over all creepy and and have to walk away quicky...

The upper floor in the pet shop has a non agressive being. Just hangs around but does not do much - you get a feeling of it being there and only a faint shadow is seen.
