Summer Scout Fair

Depending on how you calculate the first day of Summer we are either already sweltering under grey summer skys or have only a week and a half before all that begins. Either way the season's celebrations are already under way.  Today you can pop over to Plough Green for the Old Malden Scout's Summer Fair...

These scouts have been providing scouting activities for children and young people aged between 6 and 18 across Old Malden and the surrounding area since 1950.

Liz who helps run the scouts told the blog:
"The fair is our main fundraising event of the year, and really important to us so we can keep financing the training of our leaders, transport, communication, our equipment, and our headquarters.
Most importantly though, to provide our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts with fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to help others.
Scouting develops skills including teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative, planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment."
If anyone wants to see what they do, they have a new website at http://1omscouts.org.uk/ The latest edition of our magazine “Red and Yellow” is now on the website and will show you what they’ve been doing during the last term.

The fair this year will have all the usual fun including Splat the Rat game, Scouts in the Stocks, Hook a Duck, Face Painting, and a bouncy castle, not to mention stalls like the popular plant stall, BBQ, Scalextric Racing, the Book Stall and Bric a Brac. They also have arena events this year including local children performing.

Dr Bike

Also at the fair will be Dr Bike with two mechanics who will check your bike for free.

Additionally the Dr Bike road-show consists of:
  • travel ambassadors - to discuss individuals travel problems, and help offer solutions
  • free materials and promotional materials for cycling, walking, public transport
  • pedal powered scalextrix
The fair runs from 11.30am until 3pm - so get yourself along!
