Fixing It Again

The pleasant looking stones are going in again at the 'crossing' at the top of Central Road (opposite Balmoral Road). It seems the recent bitumen patch in there was only a temporary measure as the temporary traffic lights are back from their holiday and are now back at work holding up traffic in Worcester Park for the replacement stones to be set in place and the cement to dry.

Apparently the 'wrong type of bonding agent' was used when these stones were first laid which is why they all broke up. Hopefully we can now therefore all assume that 'this time' they have used the 'right type of bonding agent' and that we will definitely not see any repeat of the crumbling stonework that has beset these crossings since they were first put in.

Hmm, I'm presuming that apart from these newly cemented stone, with the right bonding agent, all the others are still in place with the wrong bonding agent. Does this mean that eventually all the others will break apart and need to be relaid? That is one helluva load of traffic lights for the future!!

This is the question spud. I will write to the council to find out and ask the blogger to keep us all updated. From conversations at the last OLF meeting I am being told that is not the case but I think we should all the details.

It's pretty clear from looking at the crossings (or even photos of them on this blog) that from the sinking stones/cracks/surrounding stress fractures that they are ALL breaking up.

Regrettably, this is just one in a series of Sutton OLF bungled projects. So where will all this failure and incompetent spending of public money lead? ...

Residents may recall that the same thing happened in Sutton High Street in 2010/11 which later appeared under the Sutton Guardian Headline "SHAMBLES!" and described how rashly adopted projects had been severely botched by a team more preoccupied with losing funding than actually finding a use for it...

That time around, the lead local Councillor excused themselves and simply pointed the finger at Council employees, whilst other Council employees pointed their fingers at other Council employees. It appears much of the blame ended up parked on a former Council employee, who "could not be located".

I wonder if the report can be located and uploaded to the blog? It might be an interesting read!

Hi Alex, I agree the lib dems have proved utterly incompetent at large scale projects ...
