Stone Place Theft Attempt

A NatWest bank customer narrowly avoided being tricked out of £4,500 cash yesterday.

The 44-year-old customer who had just withdrawn the cash from the Central Road branch at around 1pm yesterday (Tuesday 28th May), returned to the Waitrose car park in Stone Place and was sitting inside his Citroen van ready to eat his sandwich lunch when he was approached by a man, who told him his rear tyre was flat.

Having got out to inspect the tyre, he noticed the man leaning into his vehicle. The customer immediately realised something was wrong and challenged the man who ran off. The male suspect was joined by another man and woman before they left the area.

The money had not been taken and was still intact in the door pocket of the vehicle.

The victim believes he had been followed from the bank and that his tyre had been slashed to distract his attention whilst the suspects searched inside his vehicle.

One suspect is described as a man aged 50-60. He was wearing a black leather jacket and was South American in appearance. He was with another man aged 30 and a female wearing a beige leather jacket aged around 30-40.
