The future of the pub was thrown into doubt after its owners, the Spirit Pub Company, put the freehold of the building up for sale in May prompting concerned locals to set up a campaign to save the public house.
The venue will be closing down next week after owners failed to find a buyer to run it as a going concern.

It is a shame that Wetherspoons didn't want to add it to their ever growing list of pubs to run as a pub/hotel as they do already in certain venues. It is well placed for transport into London and it would be a shame to see it go the same way as many pubs over the last few years.
On the several occasions I have ventured in there, over many years, the staff always had an attitude of indifference and the atmosphere was unwelcoming. After the last visit, a few months ago, I vowed never to go in there again.
I shall be more than happy to see it gone, and replaced by some good-quality houses.
The building is an eye-sore, surrounded by clutter extending across the Green.
The fact that it is something of a land-mark is no justification for its continuing existence.
Is anyone gonna miss this place? Lots of people have memories of old but the heart was ripped out of it years ago
Delighted to see this chav magnet follow in the footsteps of the notorious Cazbar and Huntsmans Hall. And to their credit, the Midas Touch and Centrals seem to be aiming higher and succeeding in attracting couples and families, rather than losers with attitude.
As shown in the above photo, this building has real character and its central location makes it ideally placed for a business, such as an upmarket restaurant. Unfortunately, given the opportunity has arisen at just about the worst possible economic period in living memory. Nevertheless, hopefully someone with a few quid and a good idea for business venture will make a success of it.
Was told today by the bar staff the pub closes for business at 5pm but will reopen at 7.30pm for a period to sell off the furniture, pictures, sundry fixtures and fittings if anyone's interested. You can also drop in tomorrow and Tuesday during the day to purchase anything on sale that takes your fancy, ask the bar staff if so.
The Worcester pub site would be ideal for a mosque, plenty on car parking and no added congestion on Green Lane.
Shame no one came in to buy it. It will probably be boarded up for years now due to the recession.
Also there wouldn't be a queue at the bar!
As the existing plan for the Green Lane location had a stated capacity of 140, the capacity at this very much larger building has to be over 1,000.
I wonder, what would be the impact of 1,000 extra vehicles arriving, parking (wherever their owners liked, judging from our council's need to fix bollards in Green Lane) and departing, five times a day?
However, judging by the previous effort, I don't doubt that such a planning application along these lines would similarly declare no identifiable impact whatsoever and claim there is ample local parking available.
No, just gridlock, illegally parked cars and queues of static traffic extending in all directions!
The Worcester was a great home to many of us growing up in w/p, yes there was blood, sweat and many tears spillled there was also lots of great memories, from grab a granny on saturday nights in Cagney's to Pat Cash and John Mcenroe playing on stag during Wimbledon week. There were many great parties that im sure everyone ready this would have been to at least once in their life and as for comments i read, what utter crap. the breweries would never spend the money on the bar or club and i sure it will soon be more flats !! But a big thank you to everbody who worked there, drank there and played there over the years
I've heard from the staff that this is to re-open as a hotel?
Like now during term time
When you've grown up and left school, you might see the world differently.
I have left school, but I don't really won't to grow up. Do I have to? However I appreciate your well wishes for me to improve myself.
Nothing done to this site in months & now the pikeys have turned up!
