J'ai trouvé votre ballon!!

A balloon released during a Diamond Jubilee street party in Worcester Park has flown hundreds of miles to land in a garden near the French-German border.

Mme Maryse Doux-Boussiron has e-mailed the blog to tell me that on the morning of June 5th the balloon, with a tag bearing a return address in Worcester Park, landed safely in the garden of a friend of hers in the town of 'Bains les Bains', in the Vosges region of France.

The balloon, which had completed a journey of around 400 miles, was one of dozens launched in a balloon race by children in Longfellow Road on 4th June as part of the street's Jubilee celebrations.

Can you help reunite a  distraught 3-year-old girl with her Jessie cat stuffed toy, which was lost somewhere in Worcester Park - probably on Central Road or at the station.

She lost it on Friday 8th (the day the tree came down) and station staff and South West Trains lost property have been unable to help.

Jessie cat is black and white and very well loved - she is about 40cm tall with green eyes. If you have seen Jessie and can help a heartbroken little girl, please contact the blog.

Fallen Tree Causes Traffic Chaos

There is major traffic distruption in Worcester Park this afternoon due to a fallen tree outside St Matthias Catholic Church at the top of Central Road.

Pedestrians and motorists had a miraculous escape when high winds sent the tree crashing across Cheam Common Road, destroying a bus shelter as it fell just after 3pm this afternoon.

The road is completely blocked and emergency services are in attendance.

Car Crashes Into Shopfront

A driver escaped serious injury on Thursday night when a car veered off Cheam Common Road and crashed into a shopfront.

The incident occurred at the junction with Lindsay Road and Cheam Common Road just after 6.30pm. A street sign bore the brunt of the impact, but the vacant shop unit (next door to The Vin Bin wine shop) suffered extensive damage in the collision.

Lovely Jubilee

The flags and the bunting are out (thanks to the Worcester Park Station Volunteers and the Worcester Park Womens' Institute) and hundreds of local residents will be taking to the streets for a long weekend of celebrations.

Diamond Jubilee street parties are being held in the the following roads in Worcester Park, which will be subject to road closures:
  • Marlfield Close
  • Leyfield
  • Manor Close
  • The Hollands
  • Beverley Road
  • Boscombe Road
  • St Philips Avenue
  • Longfellow Road
  • Donnington Road
In the words of Chinese Canteen in Central Road, I hope you have a Jubbilee Time!
