Fighter jets over Worcester Park...

Fear not - the fighter jet that flew over Worcester Park on Saturday evening was one of two Eurofighter Typhoon jets taking part in practice sorties in preparation for their security role during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The fast fighter jets (normally based at RAF Coningsby but due to be stationed at RAF Northolt during the games) have been flying sorties at 1,000ft over a number of areas of London and Surrey.

I thought it sounded like one too! If it is it's just flown over West Ewell!!

Expect more of it as we approach the Olympics. Typhoon fighter planes are planned to be deployed during the games itself, so they are out "practicing".

Just came over Sutton too! Must be planning an assault on the seat of power!

Not very happy about it. 8.40 I was home alone with the dog and then it sounded like a 747 was heading towards the house. I think they could have warned London via the local neaw that it was going to happen rather than sit here watching my life flash before my eyes. Thankfully it was not the 747 heading to get me but training for the Olympics. Thanks for the communication team 2012 officials! thank goodness for the WP blog and facebook and Uxbridge news where we have found out what it is all about. Pee'd off of Worcester Park!

yep heard it saturday night too

Sounded like Concorde did in the old days, was that the sonic boom sound it made over Sutton? Awesome!!!!!!!!

Each sortie will cost a few more tens of thousands of pounds to add to the Olympics bill..in this time of 'austerity'...

Hacked off - please leave your name, address, phone number and bank details. I will ensure you are informed of all aircraft movements within 500 nautical miles of your pathetic nimby hovel.
Also, please let us know if you object to the odd loud bang when people drop stuff.

Thanks WP for the explanation.

On a practical note, what use would a Eurofighter Typhoon be to deal with any likely or unlikely disruption relating to the Olympics? Air defence fighters are hardly going to stop a threat that's already arrived and at an Olympic venue.

And presumably the RAF would seek to intercept any airborne threat as it entered UK airspace, rather than sit watching it on radar, progressing towards Wembley, then burst into life, only once it had arrived?

Eggnog Would really appreciate it if you could get all aircraft movement informtion to me, that is so kind of you.

Meanwhile.....

I really do not think that insulting me or being sarcastic is the way forward, cleary someone got out of bed the wrong side and thought that you would pick on me. Calling my home a "pathetic nimby hovel" has absolutely no impact on me.
I find it interesting that they have reported it in the Uxbridge news, which we don't get in my "pathetic nimby hovel" in wonderful Worcester Park.
My point is...With some official leaving the security documents on the train...we heard about that. The volunteers in their super uniforms...we heard about that and all via the news.
I do not object to any of it. It would have been nice to hear about it so we can all be prepared for the noise and for some of us to try and get a look at the planes. Someone else made a comment that their kids were scared. Do you think that they also live in a hovel? I don't have a problem with people dropping items, fireworks or cars backfiring.

Jog on keyboard warrior and try to wind someone else up.I for one do not get my kicks out of being rude to people.
Much Love and hugs to you Eggnog. You obviously need them. xxxxx

To Dear Eggnogg.

There is always one village idiot.
It appears we have found "YOU"

Why do you feel the need to be rude....?
Your comments are not big nor clever, nor funny.

There was no sonic boom over WP - just the very loud turbofan engines. I doubt very much they'd be given permission to fly supersonic at 1000ft over built up areas. The resulting sonic boom would result in damage to greenhouses etc at the very least.

Cuddington Ave..... do you see how your post somewhat counteracts the point you are attempting to make?

Hacked off 2012 said...

Cuddington Ave I think is making a point that calling my home a nimby hovel is rude and making assumptions that because I got spooked and grumpy by the team 2012 officals, lack of communication. Assuming I live in a nimby hovel makes Eggnog an Idiot in my view.
I would like to confirm who I am writing too but another "anonymous" makes that hard :O)

And so "Hacked off 2012" isn't anonymous?

My gran always used to complain about noisy aircraft overhead as well. Mind you, the authorities always gave a warning in those days.

What has the world become, eh?

Can we stop the petty squabbling please? This is a blog about Worcester Park. The reader comments should be about the article, not directed at each other. I'm all for a bit of lively debate where all involved are welcome to their thoughts, but please stop being childish. Put your energy into expressing an opinion, not attacking one another.

We live in the proximity of flight paths for a number of major airports and minor airfields. We experience aircraft noise everyday. What about the Chinooks and other helicopters that fly past at low level rocking the foundations and vibrating the patio windows each day too?

Deal with it.

But George, you have just attacked people.

"Deal with it"

Hardly cordial, is it?

Seriously I have read these comments you all need to get life's there's more important things than a 20 second noisey jet . I'm sure if anything was to happen and these jets saved many lives or your relatives lives you would be great full thanks to a practice run months before the event. Stop moaning !!!! Anonymous do you think the Taliban will give us a warning when they attack?????
Peace out ;).

It isn't just one jet though. Worcester Park is becoming unbearably noisy, from police sirens, almost constant helicopter traffic and motorists using their horns more often.
