Terrible to see our small part of London having no choice but to lock itself down.

Being from Lyttelton in New Zealand (the epicentre of the February earthquake) it is horrible to see London youths creating similar distruction for nothing other than a pair of designer shoes....

Dear WP Blogger - can you please confirm whether the photo of broken glass in Avventura was behind the boarded door - if so this is likely to be from where the baliffs broke in, as the was boarded when I drove past at the weekend. I'm surprised at WP Blog miss-reporting - Please stick to the facts! this is our area and we we don't want to attract attention. The boarding outside Bellini's looks appalling - not what we want in WP

Wow - that's one of the best NIMBY comments I've ever seen. The quality of the boarding up isn't of the standard we expect in WP?! Heaven forbid that people want to protect their livelihoods by any means possible.

I live near Central Road, and approx midnight last night I heard some shouting and what sounded like something being aggressively kicked but only for a minute then was silent.

well I for one would be more than willing to join others in blocking off both ends of the high streeet and the adjoining roads if there aren't enough police if the necessity arose, we fought in the war to protect and maybe we have to do so now, although how very very sad that the enemy is from within this time!

North Cheam seemed to have quite a police presence (+ police vans) yesterday eve. Presumably this was mainly because of Sainsburys (who announced they were closing early) & Macdonalds. Didn't hear of any trouble though-probably not worth the trip-thank goodness.

Just watched two girls talking on MSN....oh my God they were talking about how good it was, the interviewere asked them if they were drinking rose wine and they said yes free drink! They said it was because of the rich people, but the interviewer said why do it to people in their own neighbourhoods! They said they hoped it was going to happen again......how sad that they are so stupid, they probably don't even know that this was supposedly caused by one shooting, just that its fun with free drink, free clothes and gives them something to do for the night! bring on the water hoses, rubber bullets anduse those batons to stop this now!!

I too would be willing to man the streets if riots threatened to break out in our area, it is such a minority of people who wish to act in such a depraved and selfish, mindless manner, that if all of the rest of us stood up against it, they would be sent packing in minutes!!

I really hope most people in and around Worcester Park would be willing to do the same and protect our homes and business against mindless greedy thuggery.

You know what maybe we should hold a meeting about what to do because whilst its quiet at the moment I don't sadly think this is over.

Simple things like wear a cycling hat that loads of people have at home anyway, help protect yourself, if it were necessary to protect our town The government say they will use the watr vans...but they are in Ireland and take 24 hours to get here.....why haven't they already got them here for instance ready and waiting? I really don't think enough is being done, you look at a row of police running from the yobs..they should be running towards them now away and hitting them with the battons, why have them otherwise and if there was any better time to use them than now I don't know when!!! thoughts please.....and I'm a woman prepared to help out by the way!

Yes, I too would be prepared to defend our area but isn't it strange when people are willing to do this but when my house was being targeted by vandals kicking down my wall, drunken and drugged up yobbos congregating outside and my elderly neighbour beaten up and robbed, all the neighbours closed the doors and drew their curtains, saying as they weren't affected they didn't want to get involved! A strange country.

Haven't Sutton council already done a pretty good job of this in recent weeks..?

will every one stop harking on about water cannons - we dont have any because they are expensive, a vast waste of water and only useful for dispersing crowds of thousands.

With the current problem it was small mobile pedestrian gangs who would simply have relocated to another street when seeing the cannon and it would not have been able to be in multiple locations at once.

Dont just jump on the nearest bandwagon going.

In response to Magic Dragon, a visible police presence is what is required to stop the local thugs and vandals prevalent on WP streets, Im sure Mr Burstow will agree when he comments on the blog in the near future as promised to me on twitter.

Last year we seemed to have more community police walking around, who were very interactive, willing to give out contact details and made themselves more approachable. It did make a difference but unfortunately they seemed to suddenly disappear, probably because of cutbacks.

Maybe we need a curfew until after the Bank Hol (you could sort out the wheat from the chaff)!

Yes a visible police presence is needed, didn't see one on Tuesday in Worcester Park!!!!!!!! And water canons and plastic bullets are the way forward to these mobs, and if you think they are just a few and not hundreds I wonder which news you have been watching!!!

Saw 2 support officers in WP last night (weds)

anon -the point was if you fire a water cannon into a crowd of 100 it will not have the desired effect - it cant pick of smaller groups, it has a low range and is slow to operate. It is better deployed as a barrage against 1000's forming a wall of people which cannot move as fast. If you read any of the experts on riot control they will concur with this view

I didn't mean few in number, but hundreds of rioters in Worcester park, with a population of over 10,000, is indeed a tiny minority, and easily assailable if we stood up for ourselves!

I agree stand up for ourselves would help certainly! Sadly I don't think the end of this trouble is here yet, the mobs have't been re-educated yet to human behaviour so there will be more to come sadly of people that think life owes them a living and a 46" screen TV for free!! They stole things that we have been saving for for years and would love to have but cannot afford so why do they think life owes them nice things!!!!

I think were singing from the same song sheet anon! im all for giving them a smack - just got to get the most effective tools for the job.
