Center Of Intention?

Is this the latest unfortunate signage incident in Worcester Park or has the 'Surrey Door Center' really gone all American on us?

Furious bystander Miss Pelling of Linewood Drive raged: "This town is becoming so Americanised  and I won't have it. I have just gotten used to having The Hamptons on my doorstep and now this. Worcester Park should be British 24/7 - it's time we brought some normalcy to this goddam town. I for one will be buying my doors elsewhere'.

Totally agree Miss Spelling, we are not America and we in this country should learn to spell correctly.
But maybe Surrey Doors or their sign writer did not know the spell checker has an 'English' version.Lets hope they correct it soon.

How is this town being Americanised!?

Well the roadworks are making us drive on the right, so perhaps she's right.

Enjoy! (Another silly Americanisation). Enjoy what?? Whatever to the 'it' part?

The first time I heard 'Enjoy' was in America about 20 years ago, when a waitress served a meal. I wondered what the hell she was talking about!!

It's not, it's being Americanized!

It's clearly being Americanised as the local population are seemingly unable to grasp basic humour!

Quite right Anonymous. We should organize an Anti-Americanization campaign. The stores on main street should stay English.

"Wor-sess-ter Park says "No Way!"

Oh,my American friend is coming to stay next week. He'll feel right at home now! : )

HUMOR (humour) people! When will you all get it? Miss spelling/Miss Pelling. Sheesh.

Coincidentally there is a Miss Pelling, head of Drama at Cheam High School.

I was looking at a restaurant website recently and noticed they had deserts on the menu. I wondered if I should write to them, decided not to, didn't fancy a rude e-mail back.
Whilst we're talking of the door center I noticed even worse in WP, trouble is I can't remember the name of the shop. It had 3 examples, televeision, cabel and something else. I'm not sure whther you blame the signwriters or the shop owners for not proof checking.
I remember when I first saw the Plumb Center company and was tempted to buy something by cheque and spell the name MY way. Decided not to waste the money in case they didn't care or notice.
It's not about being fussy , it's about a bit of decent spelling. This country is dumbed-down enough now with all its americanisms. Speaking of which, I frequent Subway sometimes - they give me what I want in a sandwich. So I ask for my "usual" 6 inch, hearty Italian ham salad please. "Would you like cheese on that and toasted?" came the response. Grrh! After a few visits I asked the girl why she said this and she replied that they had to ask everytime! You couldn't make it up.
Yes, I'm middle-aged and less tolerant now but I guess it's only because I was "tort proper at skool!

It may have been covered elsewhere in the blog, but I've just noticed a dental practice taking shape where the TV repair shop used to be.

Being at the centre of Central Road, this empty unit was something of an eyesore, so it's good to see it being put to good use. [That's assuming the tenant is complying with any relevant planning laws or change of use for the location ... unlike some!]

Why oh why!! Its funny how so many topics that do actually require comment or action never have the support of these winging folk.
