Chamber Of Secrets

Regular blog readers will recall last year's controversy over plans for the Worcester Park mosque (or Islamic community centre to give it its official title) at the former Bank Chambers site in Green Lane (next to Kingfish).

Those behind the proposed mosque went to ground and within hours of being contacted by the Worcester Park Blog their website was swiftly taken offline.

Nothing more has been heard of the plans and no planning application has ever been submitted for the premises.

Now, though, the exterior of the building has been repainted and the interior is also being done up. What could possibly be in store for Bank Chambers?

ABANDONED CAR AT TOP OF LONGFELLOW/NATIONWIDE3

what is happening with the abandoned car that says its on tow, but has been saying its on tow for nearly two weeks outside the Nationwide/Longfellow road. The car is untaxed but yet its been allowed to be left there - an absolute eye sore!!!!

Jacey said...

Goodness, if it was in my road it would have been moved ages ago, the neighbour who thinks she owns the road would have sorted it!

Tim Braithwaite said...

Perhaps your neighbour can get involved then!!! It's two scrap cars at the moment, then it will be three........and why should the owner get away without paying car tax when everyone else has to pay!!!!

Anonymous said...

if you are on about the blue mini, please trace the owner and dont allow it to be scrapped as there are only a few 10's of thousands left on our roads. I last saw it parked behind Iceland with a broken rear window (which i presume has been replaced). Obviously it is owned by someone local - i'm guessing who lives above the shops in that area. As for the VW, weld the doors up, cut a slot in the roof and use it for waitrose green tokens..

Missy said...

Bit of an exageration, the car at the top of Longfellow Road has NOT been there for two years! Nor is it abandoned.

Anonymous said...

What have all these comments got to do with Bank Chambers?? Perhaps it should be knocked down and used as a banger recycling area

Anonymous said...

If Missy read correctly he or she would see the post said two weeks!! The said untaxed car is still there, but if you park an inch over a white line you get a fine - where is the fairness in all this!!!! Wonder how the owner is getting away with it.....

Anonymous said...

Yes I too wonder how the VW van passed an MOT, it's falling apart!!!! I had a van many years ago with a little bit of rust and it failed it's MOT........

magic dragon said...

Maybe, because of the fervour and volume of street parties that took place all over Worcester Park for the Royal Wedding this year, it's being commandeered to plan the residents response to the Golden Jubilee next year!!

Anonymous said...

the car is not abandoned - the guy to repairs cars ownes the really beaten up VW

Ian Morris said...

The VW is probably supposed to look that way, In VW circles it's called 'rat look'. Basically a rat look VW is mechanically sound but the exterior is left looking as original as possible, even if it means rust, faded paint or dented panels.

Bruce said...

Should turn the bank chambers into a drive through KFC. Then the choppers in WP will have good reason to keep their cars in working order innit

Anonymous said...

but that doesn't explain the fact he is using the on tow excuse and has left an untaxed car for over two weeks in the road!!!!! And where does this guy live, why is he using Lonfellow for his tatty old cars?? Apparently the mini used to be left behind Iceland, no idea why its moved from there and also told he has a motor bike he leaves on the opposite side of the road by the little bid on the side of the house by vets........sothats 3 tatty old bangers....theni t will be 4 and then 5............disgraceul and certainly an eyesore for everyone.

But...the MAIN point is how is he getting away with an untaxed vehicle.....and how did the VW pass an MOT..........

you busy bodies havent you anything better to do with your lives. The van eyesore or not belongs to someone who has a right to park anywhere he likes just as you lot have the right to park your vehicles. Get a life you losers

Worcester Park Blogger:Thank you for what you have done so far, but the postings are very infrequent now, so you are at risk of losing a lot of visitors. I expect you do this in your spare time , but perhaps you could include advertising to get a bit of revenue in to give you the freedom to really make it fly? It is a professional site, but without more content I may have to leave you. Sorry but I would rather say than not. Good luck.

The Worcester Park Blog is fine as it is, we will brook no criticism. If it's a bit quiet sometimes that's because not so much is happening in WP, when it does WP Blogger and his trusty band of bloggers are on the case. No point in making postings just for the sake of it.

I noticed as I walked past the VW camper a few days ago that it isn't displaying a valid tax disc. This is because although it is displaying one it is illegible and therefore invalid.

Mr. Eddy showing himself to be an erudite and considerate pillar of the community there. Such a pleasure to live in this town with so many learned people. No doubt Mr. Eddy has a senior position in the council.

Myself I was born and raised in Worcester Park although, largely on the strength of the contribution the Mr.Eddys of the world make to this community, I'm going to do everything I can not to end my days here...

Anonymous said...

Does Owner Eddie come from the planet 'ZOG'!!!
I can't understand a word(well maybe a few)he has written,if not from ZOG has he a special keyboard that produces code . If this is the case could someone let us all have a code book/programme.
If neither of these he surely couldn't have passed a driving test and therefore shouldn't be on the road anyway.

Anonymous said...

Mr Eddy has a VERY very ignorant attitude I can see by his almost uninteligible postings!!

It is not neighbourly of him to have all these untaxed vehicles in the road, my question is does he even live in the road?

Why can he get away with it and others not....maybe as one poster mentioned he might work for the council......?

Does anyone know where this rude man lives?

Anonymous said...

yes it really is people like Mr Eddy that make Worcester Park not such a nice place to live anymore. I don't think anyone in the road should have so many cars/bikes.....the road just does not have the capacity for this kind of car lot, and especially as he isn't paying road tax! The man should live in a property that has a driveway then he can have as many untaxed cars as he likes!!!!! And as for him working for Sutton Council that is a disgrace if that is the reason he is being allowed to get away with it!!!

Owning a car is a complicated business. You need to think about road tax, insurance, MOTs, and these things pretty quickly add on to the costs of owning a car. But what exactly does the law say, and what happens if you get it wrong?

Road tax - you need a valid tax disc to avoid a fine
If you're driving or storing your car on a public road you need to pay road tax (also known as vehicle tax or car tax). To show that your tax is up to date you need to display a valid tax disc in your front window. Road tax can be renewed 6-monthly or yearly, depending how much you want to pay at one time.

In order to renew your road tax, you also need a valid MOT certificate (if your car is over 3 years old) and valid insurance.
If you are the registered owner of a car, you are responsible for paying road tax, so you must tell the DVLA if you sell or scrap your car. If you decide to keep your car off the road for sometime, you must make a SORN declaration (Statutory Off Road Notification).

It is almost impossible not to pay road tax now, if you are the registered owner of a car. The DVLA does monthly checks for untaxed cars and will send you an £80 fine within 4-6 weeks of your tax running out. The fine is reduced to £40 if you pay within a month, but can increase to £1000 if you continue to drive without a valid tax disc, and your car may be clamped.

The only time you can drive a car without valid tax is if you are unable to renew your tax because your MOT has run out. Then you can drive your car to a pre-booked MOT test.

MOT - you need a valid MOT certificate if your car is over 3 years old
If your car is over 3 years old you need to get an MOT, and renew the certificate every year. It is illegal to drive without an MOT (you can be fined up to £1000 if caught), and you cannot renew your road tax without a valid MOT certificate.

The only time you can drive without an MOT is to a pre-booked MOT test. The MOT system is currently becoming computerised, so police patrol cars can check on specific cars.

You are most likely to get in trouble for not having an MOT if you're involved in a crash. You may have problems with the insurance company - check your policy to see if your car requires a valid MOT for the insurance to be valid. Most policies require the car to be ‘roadworthy' for insurance to be valid, but of course a valid MOT does not necessarily mean the car is roadworthy at the time of the accident.

MOTs are renewed yearly, although you can go to the garage for a test at any time. If you go for the MOT less than a month before your old certificate runs out, the new certificate will start after the old one runs out (ie. your new MOT will last slightly over one year). At any other time, the new MOT certificate will be dated from the day of the test.

Take a look at our example prices for getting a Car MOT done.

Insurance - third party insurance is a legal requirement
It is illegal to drive a car without at least third party insurance. This insures against claims by other drivers but does not insure you or your vehicle (you need comprehensive cover for this). You will be unable to renew your road tax unless you have at least third party insurance.

If you are caught driving without insurance there are serious penalties - you will be fined and get points on your licence. It is also possible that your car can be seized and you may face prosecution.

3rd party insurance doesn't have to cost a fortune, take a look at our secret shopper who looked at the best internet car insurance websites.

Common problems - forgetting your MOT
If you are a registered car owner, you need to have insurance and keep your tax and MOT up to date.

Think Owner Eddie may require a Spelling Bee rather than an MOT. Was it even in English!!!

Anonymous said...

As if owner eddie is actually the owner! You lot are a victim of some poor interwebz trolling.

Amy Georgina said...

I stop by every now and then and am still shocked (but rather amused!) by all the darlings who frequent this blog. How can you all be so mean to your fellow man?!

I think, what I managed to glean from Eddie, is that the VW doesn't need tax as it's dated before 1973, and he does, regardless of what you think, have a right to park it where he damn well likes, who cares what it looks like, it's a piece of history.

Same for the mini, it might look like a shit heap but I would hope he has the intention of restoring both vehicles to their former glory (give me a mini over a Ferrari ANY day!)

Anyway, carry on with your sniping, just don't be so personal and rude.

Katy Four said...

Anonymous: I'd believe that was trolling if I hadn't met people in WP with that level of literacy.

Nichu said...

If your car is from 1973 or before, you don't have to pay vehicle tax, but you still need to display the tax disc. I guess then there's nothing to stop someone who owns 20 beat up old cars parking them all over the road. You can report abandoned or nuisance vehicles on the Sutton Council website.

The mosque is coming along nicely though...

Keep Your Eyes On The Ball said...

Perhaps the interwebz trolling is designed to deflect the attention of the local infidels away from the secret KT4 mosque ...that doesn't exist? If so, then they're doing a pretty good job.

[Sorry, "the Secret Worcester Park Islamic community centre ...that doesn't exist", to give it it's official title].

Yes I'm sure everyone would be happy having 20 scrap cars outside....and these are hardly worthy of being called vintage!!!! I for one certainly appreciated proper vintage cars not ones where the tyres have the names hand painted on them!!!!!! But nonetheless it is a residential road not a car dealership.

Anyway that aside yes you don't need tax before 1973 but you DO need a tax disc (blank) and a MOT and insurance and a valid number plate to leave a car on the road!

Anonymous said...

I take it from her post that AMy Georgina doesn't have these wrecks parked outside her flats - what happens when you try to sell your flat.....your very hard earned flat...and no-one wants to buy it because of the cars!!!!!! Guess she hadn't thought of that when she was going on about fellow man!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Yes, I fully agree with what is said above, people who work hard then have this to put up with - it is just not fair.....and I suggest the people that love the cars ask the owner to move them to outside their houses/flats!!!! See how they like these 'vintage' cars then!!!!! I suspect they won't!!

Anonymous said...

Can I suggest that instead of moaning about "unfairness", the complainants do something proactive about the vehicles they do not like, rather than clutter this blog up with unrelated, off-topic posts?

Here's a handy link for you: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/UntaxedVehicle/DG_4022073

Isn't technology wonderful? Now you can all go back to your Daily Mails in peace ;)

Anonymous said...

Or perhaps we could all ask Eddie, very nicely, to park his vintage cars outside the non-mosque...

Morally bankrupt said...

I agree with Amy Georgina - My car is a wreck, so I park it outside a neighbour's house. But if my fellow man left their wreck outside my house, I'd kick off! 'Big Society' is for wimps - think not what you can give to society, but what you can take from it.

I'd like a bigger house - at someone else's expense, so I'm launching a £250,000 appeal for a local mosque in KT4. If you've got any questions, I'd be delighted to respond with the disappearance of the appeal - and your money.

Has anyone else heard that Sutton Council has now got a planning application for change of use of 'The Bank Chambers' in Green Lane into a Mosque. .i am surprised that the blog hasn't yet picked this up or others havent raised the issue.
