Traffic Chaos?

Traffic chaos today in and around Worcester Park - any ideas what's going on?

Badly phasing lights at Tolworth roundabout. Hope they fix them soon - took an hour to get to WP from Oxshott junction last week...

I wish they'd just turn them all off! When all the traffic lights failed in WP once the traffic was like on Xmas day! It was amazing.

Even if they had a mini rounabout at green lane it would be a massive improvement!

A roundabout - NOT traffic light controlled though - would be an excellent idea at the station. Ultimately traffic lights, unless they have someone watching live footage and controlling them manually, are hopelessly inefficient. How often are you sat there with no one moving at all, as the entry road with the green light is empty!

I would think a roundabout with a pedestrian bridge would help the flow immensely.

What do we do about the congestion that gets built up all the way from the a3 roundabout though?

The only way to ease it would be a major rethink of the whole system there. Maybe with some form of 'flyover' so the traffic going straight through to New Malden wouldn't have to wait at the roundabout. Thus leaving the roundabout purely for joining/leaving the a3.

But then, again, what about the congestion going through New Malden high street. Since they changed the layout there its always backed up. A roundabout outside Shoe-express instead of the lights there may help that a lot also.

In the end, more decisions need to be given back to the driver, and not be left for extremely poorly designed and managed traffic light systems.

I know TFL, Sutton and all the surrounding councils employ traffic management engineers. Literally what do they do all day? Traffic lights don't work, and they should know that by now.

If you're going to New Malden from Worcester Park, there are two excellent bus services.

Overall its probably quicker to catch the train to Raynes Park and change

The congestion in the mnornings in Worcester Park (towards the A3) results from the congestion within New Malden High Street, backing all the way back. So improvements in Worcester Park, will only make marginal difference.

Similarly in the evenings the bad congestion in New Malden (towards A3), can be attributed to the Congestion getting through Worcester Park. Since Sutton and Kingtston councils don't talk, the improvements to getting traffic to the A3 by different routes, typically as rat runs to the A3.

I'm pretty sure I didn't send that last message so "Hi, Jeff, glad to know I'm not the only Jeff in WP." But two Jeffs could cause confusion on this blog and you wouldn't want to be confused with me because you sound far more sensible than me. So do you want to add an initial after your name or would you prefer it if I did?

OR maybe if we all just call ourselves Jeff......foes that make life easier for you?
