Ryan Gate has closed for 'refurbishment' - I've yet to see any sign of anything going on in there, so I keep my fingers crossed that it hasn't closed for good otherwise I shall be too disappointed for words.
My blog sources are also buzzing with rumours that the emtpy 'Silks' shop unit is about to spring back into life. I shall keep you posted when/if I hear more on that one.
Meanwhile, as lovely as the real thing is I thought it's about time we set about building a 'fantasy Central Road'.
So, if you could bring back your favourite shops from the past or fill Central Road with any other stores that you think Worcester Park is crying out for, what would it look like?

I think a few more hairdressers and charity shops perhaps. We haven't got nearly enough yet!
I'd like to see that sweet shop and green grocers that used to be in that little parade at the bottom of green lane.
Howdy ya'll, I'd like to see a KFC megastore at the site of the former Goslets furniture store. And maybe a drive through KFC somewhere in the high street.
there used to be a proper fish mongers - that would be good.
definately agree that we need a fishmonger to accompany our excellent local butcher and greengrocers (not many high streets with those in this day and age!)
Would also like Cagney's back, whilst it was terrible WP needs some late night action
Maybe a 24 hour cafe and the return of the hairdressing Co to its spiritual home at the bottom of the highstreet.
I'd like to see the following sign on every shop window, particularly all the coffee shops and restaurants:
"This is a scream and tantrum free zone: If you lack parental control, kindly leave your children outside, chained to the railings."
Definitely would like to see a fishmongers! Please no more charity shops!!!!
Used to be a cinema a long long time ago, i think where Pizza express was. That would be great. As this is highly improbable, a place to rent DVD's other than Costcutters limited selection would suffice for now.
bring back the old kentucky from the seventies.big juicy chicken, baked potatoes, ribs and my favourite chicken sauce.im telling ya this was the finest chicken meals around and it was only 1/4 size of what it is now.worcester park was 1 of the first in this borough i.e sutton wimbledon kingston epsom to get 1 it was truly fantastic.jimmy
how about a police stn.sort out the youth.especially the houses near the bottom of washington road
The old Preedys where WHSmiths used to be. Large packet of Parma Violets please.
And BJ Drug Store, just because the name gave me hours of amusement as a child.
A proper bakers would be good(sorry Bakers Oven)
When we moved to WP in 1985 there were 3 in Central Road. The one at the top (can't remember its name) was especially good.
read and rites, old scotch tom.and some of the best arcade games around.donkey kong lunar rescue, pacman space invaders;oh what meomries
Woolworths! Well that sort of shop. It is so hard now to get nice sweeties and I did enjoy my pic'n'mix treat.
Oh and agree, fish shop. Macfisheries wasn't it?
I am lucky mine is Costa Coffee which is already there.
Not wishing to open old wounds, totally agree with Alex, though may be the shops etc should supply ear plugs to all their 'visitors'
Hi from Malaga, used to live in WP,
you have a lovely Central Road. I specially like the library -you don't imagine how lucky you are-. I'd get rid of franchises like KFC and substitute it with local bakeries or cafes. Waitrose is great but how about a bit of competition?
Greetings from Spain
How about a women's clothing shop? The men of WP seem to do okay but there's nothing for us gals! Once we've had our hair done at one of the several hundred possible hairdressers, where do we get the outfit to go with it..?!
Oh, and a restaurant serving something other than Italian food would also be most welcome....
The clothing shop would be allowed as long as they only sold bikinis or underwear.
