Amore More More...

No sooner had I blogged about possible changes afoot in the old Silks shop unit than a banner has gone up proclaiming the imminent arrival of 'Bellini' - bar, cafe, restaurant.

A few months back I asked you what type of restaurant you would like to see join the illustrious list of local eateries. The responses flooded in - Greek, Spanish, Mexican, Thai, Korean and British restaurants were amongst your suggestions.

As it turns out we have ended up with a third Italian restaurant (the fourth if you count Pizza Express, which I don't).

I suppose that in a small suburban town in the middle of an economic downturn it pays to play it safe and go for a tried and tested cuisine, but do we really have the appetite for yet another Italian?

Time will tell. In the meantime, I am officially disappointed.

What was the point of that bit of user research on the blog then? Is it actually a new owner or did the owner of Silks just decide to drop Chinese and Thai elements of the Fusion Menu?

Bad choice either way.

Well we currently have 25 places to eat, thats restuarants and fast food/takeaway places. So isnt it about time we had something nicer? I would like a clothes shop, maybe somewhere like Next?

what about one two three the clothes shop.talk about quality.alright it was pricey but you get what you pay for.1 more thing how about a wetherspoon in that ridicously overpriced furniture store near the legion

I love Italian food - but we have plenty of decent Italian food covering a range of prices. I really can't see how it can survive. Do people who open these restaurants do no research into the local area? Very fed up

I believe the Piccolo may be struggling(there are never many people eating there) and have even now closed their coffee/cafe area.
Agreed not very thought out by the new owners !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bellinis is completely unrelated to the old Silks restaurant. The owners of Silks recently sold the lease on the shop unit to the the people behind Bellinis. Completely different restaurants with completely separate management.

the owners of Bellini have a similar one in Wimbledon which is first class!

In fairness, if you look at the many responses to the original question of what type of restaurant WP residents would like to see, they are pretty random and there is no one identifiable theme. However, 'Italian' was certainly far from flavour of the month, perhaps even bottom of the pile, with some feedback suggesting anything but Italian!

Although I'm sure the responses could not be described as an accurate and representative cross-section of the local community's views, I'm still rather mystified as to how someone has concluded that the type of restaurant WP needs is the very type that local market research suggests WP doesn't want!

Perhaps they know something we don't?

After reading your comments regarding the new Itailian Restaurant Bellinis. I decided to go and see for myself, and my comments would be great food, very friendly staff and lovely ambience. The menu was varied and not typical italian. I strongly recommend if you havent been to go there, we liked it so much that we have booked for christmas! Another restaurant to choose from ? is that bad? in our opinion its choice that matters - and sometimes its nice to go somewhere which is not a chain...... and offers something a little bit different.

The main reason Piccolo is not doing well is because it's over priced, and one waiter is very rude - every time I've been there! After paying a small fortune to have our meals not arrive together (I was on my main while my husband was still waiting for his starter) our drinks were wrong & we were not informed of the special offer on, I promised I would never step foot in there again! If Bellinis have nice staff & food then I'm sure they will do better than Piccolo's.

I've been to Belinis three times now and am going again tonight for a birthday celebration. Each time we have been the food has been excellent, the staff friendly, courteous and very helpful. One time because they didn't have the sweet we wanted they gave us a taster platter FREE. I would highly recommend it. The chef is awesome. My biggest problem is deciding what to have...great menu.

Belinis is a lovely little restaurant with a varied main menu and an excellant Tapas style menu. Been a couple of times now and really enjoyed it

Thinking of going to Bellinis next week. Does anyone know if they cater for veggies? (But she doesn't like mushrooms!)

Bellinis has had some good reviews from people on here. Always seems to have plenty of empty tables compared to La Mamma, though.

Bellini is a class above La Mamma - consistently good food... they could do a set menu for a fixed price, as the pure a la carte option does make it a little pricey for an out of town eatery... it makes it more of a special event type of place than somewhere you can out of spontaneous though... that is not good for a place like WP...

Bellini excellent. I have eaten in every restaurant in the area, and when it comes to Italian Bellini is my favourite. The food is always top quality. The atmosphere friendly. They even have crisp white tablecloths a nice touch. When the bill comes it's a pleasent surprise very reasonable.

I also think Bellini is the best restaurant experience in Worcester Park. It just saddens me to see it so empty in the week. I hope it can continue in these hard times.

Terrible service. When we queried the bill at the end of the meal, the owner pushed my wife. Would never eat there again.
