Gone For A Berties

Popular Worcester Park cafe 'Berties' has been forced to close down after falling behind with the rent on its Central Road premises.

The Worcester Park Blog understands that despite the cafe's owners falling only a matter of days behind on their quarterly rental payment, the landlord instructed Sutton-based Dawkins Certificated Bailiffs to reposess the unit.

The owner of Berties does have another business elsewhere in London, so all is not lost for him - but it leaves Worcester Park with yet another vacant shop unit and worse still leaves me with nowhere to go for a decent full English breakfast.

A good full English at Bertie's? Really? Maybe it was just an off day when I went but it was the worst breakfast I've ever had. Shame to see a local cafe shut down though.

Was this the same cafe that was owned by the man who owned Zanders restaurant in Cheam Common Road? That restaurant has closed too.

Nothing to do with Zanders, but yet that too has closed. Not a good time to be a cafe owner!

Bad news. One of the few good cheap cafe's in W.Park.

Sign of the times. I hope the landlord is happy with himself......

It seems crazy - surely this unit is now likely to be empty for months with the current climate. What on earth has the landlord got to gain. Unless he has had a lucrative offer from, say, a hairdressers.
