Going, Going, Gosletts

Gosletts furniture store is the latest ina grim catalogue of retail failures in Worcester Park. The now-familiar 'Closing Down' banners went up at the end of last week, with promises of a massive clearance sale.
It certainly drew a crowd - blog reader Graham snapped this picture of the queue of feverish furniture hunters outside Gosletts at 10 o'clock this morning.

Meanwhile, the famous TV Clinic has finally been stripped bare of all fittings (and the few old TVs that were still gathering dust).

Could this be the start of an exciting new development?

I was in Goslett's on Friday having a last look. Have to say anything I fancied had gone but everything was far too expensive anyway, even the pictures. This was also the case in their sale last year. I was annoyed to see they'd put the prices skyhigh then brought them down a tiny bit. Hardly a sale!
Anyway I digress. Suddenly an elderly chap "interrupted" the quiet to explain that he had waited 17 weeks for something promised in 6 - 8 weeks and they were refusing to give him his money back. The staff were quite huffy and suggested he left or they'd have him removed and call the police. He said that maybe they should and he'd continue his "speech" as it was his right to get his money back. Fair dues to him, at no point was he rude and his wife was there with him. I wondered if anyone knew the outcome of this.( I had very similar problems with Wheatlands in Morden a couple of years ago where I waited 6 months, and eventually had to go to VISA for help. The man in there was incredibly rude and 2 weeks after I'd had to endure his rudeness again to get my refund they went into liquidation).

Hopefully it's a café or something rather than another charidee shop. It's big enough to be a decent sized Café Nero or somesuch.

I popped in for the first time in 14 years and quickly realised that most of the items in the store looked as though they had been in worcester park far longer than me. The sofa and chair reduced from £5500 to £3500 was unbelievable - I would have had to think about it it if they offered me £3500 to take it away. I sincerly hope the person mention above got his refund as sadly it looks as though he won't get anything once they've gone.

Are thet definitly going? Or is it going to be another 'betty boo shop' type of closing down sale?

Looks like there is some work going on in the old Samuel James estate agents as well. Anyone know what's going in here - please not another charity shop!

We should be supporting our local businesses. Alfreds has been selling furniture in Worcester Park for over 40 years and it is sad to read some of the comments made. Fred only shops every 14 years (pity he didn't shop more often perhaps then Alfreds' wouldn't be closing down) For my part I have had nothing but superb service over all the years my family and I have been shopping there. I wish them all the best, they will be sadly missed.

What about one of those fruit machine arcade places like in morden and new malden that would be really good at bringing in some extra cash to the area and brighten up the dull high street with some nice bright neon and colourful signs

I walked past Sammy J's today and there was an advert for a nail specialist or something or other. I wasn't really interested but no doubt another crap shop we don't really want will open.... Oh actually I would like my nails to have extensions and gaudy colours. I can't wait

What WP really needs is a money shop where you can money lauder your dodgy cheques. Or maybe a pawn broker

No no no, What would go REALLY nicely in Gosletts place is a nice mincab firm, with a tiny front window shop space leaving the rest of the unit free to be put into proper use as as after hours casino/massage parlour. Worcester park needs more blackjack and hookers.
