Pub Fight

We're at the half-way mark in April's monthly poll - your chance to vote for your Worcester Park drinking establishment of choice. It's a clear two horse-race between The Worcester Park Tavern and CAZBAR, with Rumours Wine Bar clearly having no friends on the internet.

But, lo, we have a traitor in our midst in the form of the newly refurbished 'The Drill' public house, which I favourably reviewed a few weeks ago. They have now launched their new website here - but what's that on the front page of the site:

"The Drill is a family friendly pub in Cheam, Surrey"

Well.... pardon me but if 'Worcester Park' is in your address, then Worcester Park is where you are.

Unfortunately, unlike in Zimbabwe and Blue Peter, the poll results cannot be altered once voting has started, but in view of this shameful act of small-town two-timing I have unilaterally decided that all past and future votes for The Drill will be awarded to The North End Tavern which is in Worcester Park and proud of it.

And I urge you all to show your strength of feeling at the disloyalty of The Drill by wandering past and tutting loudly, or something.

Oh, and don't forget to cast your vote for your favourite local boozer in the 'Monthly Poll'.

Hate to say it but ALL the pubs in Worcester Park are really dire. They are full of foul mouthed young chavs!!! If they are not full of spotty faced, football supporting, kebab eating morons then they are really sterile and boring. Good pubs can be found in Ewell & Epsom. ;)

I will admit I only voted for the Gamecock out of sympathy. It is my local, but I haven't been in there for three years. There's nothing quite like sitting in a beer garden on a sunny day, surrounded by fox excrement.....

I would say visiting the pubs in Worcester Park is an experience...and if you happen to go in the Huntsman, that experience is....fear.

I popped into the Drill on Friday night to see if there was any inprovement. There was live music and the staff were friendly and alhtough there was a noisy group around the pool table they were quite friendly too! We ended up staying for the evening.
Not like it used to be at al1! Still no food though

Sorry about the typo in my comment (I'm not quite awake yet)- it should read "Not like it used to be at all!"

Originally known as “The Random Pub Generator” the http://www.throngalong.com website was developed to solve the age-old problem of deciding where to go out for a drink in the evening, how to invite everyone and how to know who is coming and who isn’t.

Basically you set up a shortlist of favourite pubs (or clubs, restaurants etc), add a list of friend’s email address and choose a date and time. Invitations are sent out with a link so everyone can RSVP easily and see who else is going. The neatest thing is that the venue is selected at random, at the time the invitations are sent out, from the list given. The date can be recurring so you can have it go off automatically every week, choosing a different pub each time.

The RSVP page is great as everyone can leave messages for each other to arrange where to meet, explain why they’ll be late, or worse of all, why they’re not coming!

Here's a suggestion: Alongside monthly awards for best pub, how about awards for worst and most improved pub in Worcester Park? The best, for my money, is the North End Tavern, simply because of its least unappealling patrons.

Worst has to be the Chavbar (keep an eye out for vomit, as you walk past). It could easily win the most improved award - if it closed. Perhaps the problem is something to do with it being most conveniently located for the 'amptons?

Really? I've never known of any problems from Cazbar and certainly haven't noticed the pavements bein vomit-strewn. I'm not sure where you get your information from.

my mother in law and husband went to the Drill a few weeks ago and were very disappointed. The food was terrible one starter came out the other one was another 15 mins! The chickhen was over cooked and the staff didn't seem too bothered. The live bands are a good idea, but i'm afraid its always been a dive and there is no sign of improvement
